An excellent disgn history
In 1954 WMF won the iF Product Design Award, which was presented for the first time that year. Among other things, the Cromargan cutlery 3600 "Form" was honored at that time. 65 years later, the company counts a total of 450 iF awards and looks back on a unique design history. Now the WMF Group has been honored for this consistency in design and was honored as a company from the very beginning at the iF awards ceremony in Munich.

Coffee is ready...
... these lyrics sung by Peter Cornelius are the ultimate acoustic tribute to the cult drink and symbol of well-being. But how did coffee become what it is today? It was a real luxury commodity during the time of Frederick the Great, who recognised the potential of the hot brown beverage back in 1780 and placed strict limits on coffee roasting licences, meaning that its enjoyment was mainly reserved for the upper classes.
It provided both reinforcement and nourishment during the period of industrialisation since many workers at that time lived on bread, which they dipped into a dark soup made of boiled coffee beans – keeping them full and awake at the same time so they could tackle the hard work ahead.
Around the middle of the 19th century, with the invention of the coffee filter and soluble coffee, it finally became a popular drink. Today, Germans drink an average of two cups of coffee a day, while an incredible 2.6 billion cups are consumed every day around the world. An expert in all things coffee for more than 150 years: The WMF brand launched the first coffee machine for household use back in 1880. To this day, our passion for coffee has not changed and lots of innovative products – from the classic filter coffee machine to the coffee maker and professional machines – all bear witness to the exciting history of coffee.
